DOVER STREET MARKET
"CELINE DREAMS"
The layout was very precise and captivating. The hints of orange was the main focal point and I really liked how the bags were placed in glass boxes with the shoes underneath. The pop of orange against the monochrome items added a contrast and exposure to the concept.
I also loved how the clothes were co-ordinated with neutral tones, the overall appearance on how the pieces looked as a collection made you want to literally buy everything which is what they aim to do (lead customers into buying something)
This was absolutely my favourite collection.
"COMME DES GARCON"
This collection was all about geometric shapes, 'boxy' silhouettes and exaggerated proportions. This collection was fulfilled with the obvious -the colour red. The colour red connotes anger, love, heat, sexuality – all the associations of the colour are celebrated in a passionate collection that rages against the surface level.I liked this collection because it instantly grabs your attention and it was very interesting to look at how each of the pieces were constructed with layers of fabric, design detail and fabric manipulations. The collection was presented in a very minimal look so that customers are able to take everything in and not having everything to crowdy as the colours were very strong.
The music playing was very neutral and soft, not too loud but suitable for the overall experience when shopping around. It made me feel at ease and helped me concentrate on each of the garments, so I felt the music was just right.
"PACTHWORK PERFECTION"
My second favourite collection. The patchwork on these pieces were very interesting,
Each fabric swatch was stitched precisely and inspired me to include some patchwork detail into my design process for my garment. It was filled with the double denim trend and involved fine details of patchwork and I loved how ragged some of the garments look, this made it stand out from the other collections I looked at. The pieces reminded me of the 'folk' trend incoporating the checkered shirts and wide legged jeans
The store had a very urban yet cool feel, welcoming atmosphere and a minimal yet creative layout with innovative props for each floor and collections which was good so every floor told a story and was exciting to go and see what it had to offer.
I think this store is successful because it offers a wide range of high-end collections catering to a variety of audiences who love different brands such a Craig Green, Celine, Thome Brown, Alaia etc. The store offers a unique feel and appearance which is very different from normal brands we'll see on the high street. Everything isnt over-crowded and placed messily on the hanger or pieces on the floor, it is rather pristine and very precise which is what customers love. Every collection is laid out correctly so pieces are easy to find and attract people.
